Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia is a ligament structure that runs along the bottom of the foot, from the heel to the forefoot which helps support the arch of the foot.

Excessve tension and pulling on the plantar fascia damages the ligament which leads to inflammation, pain and somtimes a bony heel spur.

Seeing your Podiatrist as early as possible is key, as the plantar fascia can take a long time to heal.

Treatment for plantar fasciitis:
- Massage/warming: first thing in the morning to warm the ligament structure ready for the day
- Icing: at the end of the day to reduce any inflammation and ease pain
- Supportive footwear: wearing supportive footwear at all times, avoid barefoot, flat shoes/thongs
- Taping/strapping: Your Podiatrist will strap your affected foot to increase support and reduce load/pressures on the plantar fascia
- Orthoses: to permanently support your feet, and correct any abnormalities which may be causing the plantar fasciitis
